Q: What exactly is an ASP and why is this a better way?
A: An ASP is an Application Service Provider. A company that offers an ASP solution operates a single instance of its application across all of its clients as opposed to hosting a single instance of the software for just one or a few clients. The ASP approach enables EdTek and our partners Pearson eCollege and it's learning to focus all their resources and expertise on maintaining one set of infrastructure (or in our case one primary and one hot back-up location) to host and support your eLearning campus and the online education software.
The net result is that significantly more hardware, software and staff are in place to support your online distance learning program than most single institutions could afford by themselves. This gives you a very high degree of reliability, scalability, and security in the delivery of mission critical services to students, instructors and administrators. An ASP solution also enables smaller education providers to focus their resources on other critical areas such as course development, faculty training and enrollment marketing.
